Departing from Christchurch airport to the Southern Alps, you begin to see the vast tapestry that is the Canterbury Plains.
The Canterbury Plains is an area of braided rivers and pastoral perfection between the Southern Alps and the Pacific Ocean. The plains are a remarkable sight from the air, a patchwork of agricultural activity that ranges from grazing grasses, wheat,herbs, sunflowers beef, sheep and deer.
Your flight will take you alongside and through the gorge of The Waimakariri River, one of the largest braided rivers in Canterbury. Flowing from the Southern Alps across the Canterbury Plains to the Pacific Ocean.
Look down on the array of limestone boulders in the Castle Hill area. A popular climbing and hiking area.
A number of ski fields come to life in the winter in the Castle Hill Basin.
You will be able to see the route of the historic TranzAlpine railway through to the upper reaches of the river and disappear into the Arthur’s Pass National Park.
Experience your spectacular remote mountain landing on a summit to breathe in the fresh alpine.
