You have a choice of 2 stunning wineries within easy reach:
1. PEGASUS BAY WINERY is rated one of NZ’s top 5 wineries and is the winner of the 2012 Cuisine Magazine, NZ Winery Restaurant of the year. “Pegasus Bay’s spectacular setting sets it apart. The building complex is full of warm wood and natural light, around which lie sweeping lawns, gardens, a lake and a natural amphitheatre. Behind this beautiful spot is one of New Zealand’s first families of wine. Patriarch Ivan Donaldson led the way, and now the second generation has also dedicated themselves to producing wine and dishes of distinction. The restaurant is under the direction of Belinda Donaldson, and her attentive waitstaff demonstrate an intimate knowledge of the Pegasus Bay wine portfolio and the wonderful food produced by chef Shawn McGowan.”
2. WAIPARA HILLS WINERY Established in 2001, Waipara Hills is an award winning wine range from the South Island of New Zealand. Recipient to over 500 medals Waipara Hills has developed a fine reputation for crafting rich aromatics, with vibrant, complex flavour. The Waipara Hills Cellar Door is located in the picturesque Waipara Valley, 50km north of Christchurch. Set amongst landscaped gardens, with spectacular views across The Home Block Vineyard to the Teviotdale Hills, our home captures the ‘Soul of the South’. Specialising in aromatics, visitors to the cellar door can enjoy Waipara Hills Pinot Gris, Riesling, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir. They are open for lunch daily and wine tastings.
Flights to both wineries operate daily all year round except some public holidays. Flights are around 20 minutes one way. Your helicopter pilot will be ready when you are to take you back to base near Christchurch airport after lunch.
